MEET THE OWNER
Tracie M Coleman, founder and artistic director of Millennium Dance Studio, is originally from Charlotte, NC. Her dance training includes jazz, hip hop, contemporary, ballet, and tap-the chosen favorite of the group. She studied dance at the University of N. Carolina at Charlotte, while pursuing a degree in Biology, which in turn would have led to a career as an emergency physician, but fate kept her dancing and a few years later the studio was born. She has performed professionally for Neil Goldberg's "Cirque"(2007) and has choreographed works for numerous live productions, appearances, auditions, festivals and a diverse array of corporate clients. As a casting producer, she has coordinated talent/dancers for the national tour of "The Wiz" on Broadway(2009) and eHow.com(2012-2014).
Since founding Millennium Dance Studio in July 2001, the company has evolved throughout the years into much more than a local installation. In the last 14 years, the studio has teamed up with national brands, touring shows, notable dance companies, local arts organizations, and entertainment giants(Universal Pictures, Viacom , & TLC Networks), that have helped catapult it from being just a traditional instruction provider. The year 2002, marked the creation of the Charlotte Dance Company, which serves as a professional ensemble of ten(10) talented artists and a diverse, yet extremely-creative repertoire. As the founder and executive director, she oversees the daily operations, live shows, master classes, and artist residencies along the East coast.
Being a self-proclaimed movie, television, and pop-culture wiz, she was beyond shocked in 2007 when MTV called the studio looking for help on one of their hit reality series. Approximately 2 days later, she was offered a position on the 4th season of "Making the Band" with Sean Diddy Combs and the R&B group Day 26. This encounter opened the door to additional production roles on FOX's "So You Think You Can Dance"(Season 3), American Idol(Season 4), and NBC's "America's Got Talent"(Season 9). In 2014, she worked alongside Funny or Die, 3Arts Entertainment, and Live Nation, providing casting for their nationwide "OddBall Comedy Tour". Currently, she is using 2015-16 as a platform to sculpt the future of the brand and make a long-awaited return to the stage.
Fun Fact: She hates being in front of a camera, but played a high school student in Tyler Perry's "Meet the Browns"(2008) after they didn't need a choreographer for the day.
We're celebrating fifteen successful years in Charlotte NC, with additional class locations in Atlanta GA, Richmond VA, Charleston SC, and annual dance excursions to New York NY.
We host several programs throughout the year, including our very popular adult Performance Program, the Broadway Series and New York Experience, along with various Education, Corporate, and Private Group options. Summer 2017, will introduce the return of our Children & Teen Program.
